Main Character Monday: Special Weekend Edition

Welcome to a very special edition of Main Character Monday. As you know, today is not Monday. However, in celebration of Candy Cane Wishes and Saltwater Dreams releasing on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, I’m hosting a weekend edition of Main Character Monday. Today, you’ll hear from one character in the collection. Monday, you’ll get to meet another.

Today’s guest is Taylor Fordham from “Mr. Sandman” by Regina Rudd Merrick. Thank you for joining me .
If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?
As much as I love living at the beach, some of my happiest times have been in the mountains.
I’m in South Carolina, but North Carolina and some great skiing is available fairly close. I haven’t traveled outside the US, so, if I could pick ANY place? Skiing in the Alps in Switzerland.

That sound like the complete opposite of where you are? But it does sound like an adventure.                       The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Which of these traits do you find easiest to display in your life? Which of them is the hardest to display?
Hmmm . . . Easiest? None of them are easy ALL the time! I guess Gentleness comes more
naturally to me. Hardest? That would be patience. I know, not very original, but with all that’s
happened in the last few years, and then some of the strange things happening around me now,
I’m wondering if God’s got ANY plans for a “happily ever after” for me?

You’re right. So many of us struggle with patience. What is your favorite story from the Old Testament?
Oh, that’s an easy one! Esther! She was in exactly the right place at the right time – to me, it
shows just how much God loves us, that he would choose someone like Esther, an orphan, to be
a queen and save her people.

What is your favorite book in the New Testament?
James. Hands down. In the first chapter, verses 2-4, James says, “Consider it a great joy, my brothers and
sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith
produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete,
lacking nothing.” That’s the CSB version. The Living Bible actually says, “when the way is rough, your
patience has a chance to grow!” Tough words, but comforting when you feel like life is out of control!

It’s a hard thing to count our trials joy, but I love the way the second version words the verse. It feels like a reminder to motivate us in the hard times. If you could leave us with one message, what would you want us to know?
God is faithful. When you think things can’t get any worse, guess what? They can! But, God is there, and
He’s walking right beside us and loves us through it.

One more lighthearted question for you. If you could have one exotic pet, what would you choose?
A very TAME lion. I love the big cats!

Your answer reminds me of the quote from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. When speaking with Lucy at the end one of the characters describes Aslan by saying, “Only you mustn’t press him. He’s wild, you know. Not like a tame lion.”
And here are your speed questions, just for fun:
Sunrise or sunset? Sunset. Sunrise comes too early for me!
Pie or Cake? Pie. Gooey goodness.
Tulip or Iris? Iris. They last longer.
Chocolate or Vanilla? Uh, chocolate! What is vanilla but a non-flavor that needs other flavors to make
it worthwhile! LOL
What three words would your character use to describe you as the author? Dependable, Fair, and somewhat Distracted

BLURB for Mr. Sandman
Events manager Taylor Fordham’s happily-ever-after was snatched from her, and she’s saying no to
romance and Christmas. When she meets two new friends—the cute new chef at Pilot Oaks and a
contributor on a sci-fi fan fiction website who enjoys debate—her resolve begins to waver. Just when
she thinks she can loosen her grip on thoughts of love, a crisis pulls her back. There’s no way she’s going
to risk her heart again.
