Lone Star Sweetheart First Line:
“How could she survive the night without a cookie?” – The first line of the very first chapter and already I can relate to the main character. Maybe a little too much, but I’m not going to worry about that now.
Lone Star Sweetheart Review
This is a debut book for the author, and it is a great way to introduce herself to readers. The book is a quick, easy read full of lighthearted moments and romance. I finished it in a day.
I wasn’t sure how the author would pull off having a husband and wife going against each other in a mayoral race without leaving one person a villain the readers would hate. While both characters are a little quirky, neither comes off as a villain. It was more like a case of doing the wrong thing for the right reason. And the main characters, who are the campaign managers for the couple, are both very likable and relatable.
I love books set in small towns, and this one is no different. Though the author does show the downsides of small-town life, it’s done in a way that doesn’t sour the reader on the townspeople. She does address the “everyone knows everyone’s business” mindset. This is frequently referred to in small town books. But she also incorporates the problems small towns have with people growing up and leaving for bigger cities. While alluded to frequently in books and movies, I feel she takes it a step further and shows the reader what this does to the town in her descriptions.
With quirky characters and an enemy to lovers romance, Lone Star Sweetheart is an enjoyable read for those looking for a lighthearted, sweet romance. I give it four stars.
